Welcome to the MBsC Special Subject SS6 Orthopaedics and Traumatology course! This course is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively handle trauma, orthopaedic emergencies, and common orthopaedic problems.

Throughout this course, you will explore various topics related to orthopaedics and traumatology. We will cover the fundamental principles of surgery, clinical processes, routine clinical procedures, investigations and data interpretation, management of orthopaedic disorders, common orthopaedic and trauma disorders, as well as health promotion in orthopaedics.

Course Structure

The course is divided into 7 lessons, each focusing on different aspects of orthopaedics and traumatology. Here’s a brief overview of each lesson:

  • Lesson 1: Principles of Surgery – In this lesson, we will delve into the fundamental principles and techniques used in orthopaedic surgery. You will gain an understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and postoperative care.
  • Lesson 2: Clinical Process – This lesson will guide you through the clinical process involved in diagnosing and treating orthopaedic conditions. You will learn about patient assessment, history taking, physical examination, and the formulation of treatment plans.
  • Lesson 3: Routine Clinical Procedures – Here, we will explore the routine clinical procedures commonly performed in orthopaedics. You will acquire the necessary skills to carry out procedures such as wound dressing, cast application, and joint aspiration.
  • Lesson 4: Investigations and Data Interpretation – This lesson focuses on the different investigations used in orthopaedics and how to interpret the data obtained from these tests. You will learn about imaging techniques, laboratory tests, and their role in diagnosing and monitoring orthopaedic disorders.
  • Lesson 5: Management of Orthopaedic Disorders – In this lesson, we will discuss the various management options available for orthopaedic disorders. You will explore conservative treatments, surgical interventions, rehabilitation strategies, and the importance of patient education.
  • Lesson 6: Common Orthopaedic and Trauma Disorders – Here, we will examine the most common orthopaedic and trauma disorders encountered in clinical practice. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and management of these conditions.
  • Lesson 7: Health Promotion in Orthopaedics – The final lesson of this course will focus on promoting orthopaedic health and preventing injuries. You will explore strategies for patient education, lifestyle modifications, and community-based initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of orthopaedic disorders.
